- What do I need to bring with me?
Just bring a small suitcase, a bathing suit, tee shirts, shorts, some capris (for women) and longer shorts or pants (for men). Both hotels have laundry service, so if you just bring 3 changes of clothes, they will be able to wash them for you.
- What to wear in town?
Please do not wear tank tops or shorts in town. The Balinese are very accepting of others and will not criticize you for dressing this way, but it is more respectful of them and their culture to wear more modest things in town. Capris, pants, blouses with sleeves, or a top over your tank top is appropriate.
- What do I wear for temple?
You can purchase a sarong for just $2-3 dollars once you're in Bali. You would wear a blouse or shirt, a sarong, and a temple scarf around your waist.
- What will the weather be like?
It is very warm in Bali, which is only 7 degrees south of the equator. The temperature, summer and winter is in the 80's...as is the humidity. Our rooms have overhead fans, and being on the ocean will make it more comfortable for us.
- What is the food like?
The Balinese have a wide range of food items, with lots of fresh vegetables and fruit, fish and shellfish, chicken, and pork products. As Hindus, beef is not generally eaten.
As usual when visiting developing countries, bottle water is drunk. There is also beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages available.
- What about mosquitoes?
Most beds in Bali come equipped with mosquito nets. When near the ocean, the mosquitos are at a minimum. In town, there will be more mosquitos so bring some type of repellant with you in case you feel that you need it.
- What if I become ill and need a doctor?
There is a very large (more than 50,000 persons) ex-patriate community, and there are many Western and Eastern trained physicians on the island. Your travel health insurance will cover you so that if you come down with something very serious, you can be evacuated to a large city center, either Hong Kong or Bangkok. The hospital in Denpasar can deal with most trauma.
- Do I need to bring a towel or linen?
No, the hotel will provide that for you.
- What if I forget something?
Most items can be purchased near the airport or on the way to the house. Let your driver know if you've forgotten some medication, or something else that you consider vital.
- What are some of the side trips that we'll be taking?
We will spend an evening visiting a local temple for the 'full-moon' ceremony while we're there, and another afternoon in Bedugul, visiting Lake Bratan, the botanical gardens and the market.
- How much extra money will I need to bring?
You can change money at the ATM at the airport, or again when we get to Ubud. Gaia-Oasis accepts credit cards for anything that you'll need while there. Most your needs will be covered by the cost of the tour, except for beer and wine, ice creams, and personal items. Gaia-Oasis has an honor bar, and you can take things from the fridge or freezer and pay for them at the end of your stay.
- What will I do in Ubud?
In Ubud, you will be provided with information regarding tour options. There are many art museums, galleries, boutiques that you can visit, or rent a bicycle and see the rice terraces and country-side. You can also take a cooking class, a lesson in Batik or Balinese dancing. The market in the center of Ubud is a lively place to shop and experience the life of the Balinese merchants.
The hotel also has a wonderful pool, and if you choose, you can just sit around and 'do nothing'.
